NPE2024 recycling plans coming together

Aug 31, 2023

Recycling equipment maker Weima said the firm will be part of a team of companies handling recycling duties at NPE2024, the largest plastics show in North America.

The show, organized by the Plastics Industry Association, is set to take place May 6-10 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla., and is expected to produce hundreds of tons of plastic products as part of the exhibitions.

Shredder maker Weima said it will join recycler Commercial Plastics Recycling, recycling systems maker Erema North America and auxiliary equipment manufacturer Conair as companies involved in the recycling initiative.

"Sustainability at NPE2024 is a top priority. We're committed to helping our exhibitors conduct their business in a way that drives value for society, the environment, and the industry," said Patrick Krieger, vice president of sustainability for the association in a statement.

NPE will include a what Weima is calling "a mini manufacturing center" behind the show floor to recycled plastic products made on site. This area will feature recycling equipment that will shred, granulate and extrude plastics at the show. Commercial Plastics Recycling will have a crew of about 60 people at the show to handle movement of materials and shipment to the company's recycling facility in Tampa.

NPE is returning to Orlando for the first time in six years after the 2021 version of the triennial show was canceled to due COVID-19. A total of 535 tons of plastics, 89 percent of the 607 tons generated, were recycled from the 2018 show. The goal for the 2024 show is 100 percent.
